Abstract

In today's technologically advanced and globalized world, translation has become one of the most important cultural, intellectual, and communication practices. Translation is essential for facilitating cross-cultural understanding and knowledge sharing as societies grow more interconnected due to digital communication, artificial intelligence, international trade, and global migration. Beyond its linguistic role, translation promotes innovation and cross-cultural communication while protecting cultural heritage. By examining its conceptual scope, historical development, cultural significance, theoretical underpinnings, economic importance, technological transformation, and role in diasporas contexts, this research article investigates the relevance of translation in the modern world. In the age of artificial intelligence, special attention is paid to translation and its significance in maintaining regional and local literatures. The study illustrates how translation promotes intellectual diversity, inclusivity, and cultural continuity in multilingual societies with examples from India. In order to ensure that linguistic diversity persists even in a world dominated by technology, the study contends that translation is a sociocultural practice that links local customs with global narratives.
