This article explores the critical role of women in library leadership; Women have played a crucial yet often underrepresented role in the development of libraries and library science in India. From pioneering efforts in library establishment and administration to significant contributions in library education, research, and digital transformation, women have shaped the field in multiple ways particularly in the context of fostering a reading culture and managing knowledge in the digital age. With libraries transitioning into dynamic knowledge hubs, women have emerged as transformative leaders in implementing inclusive literacy programs, digital resource management, and policy development. Drawing on global case studies and current literature, this paper examines how women are shaping information environments, promoting digital inclusion, and sustaining reading habits in a technologically driven society. The study also reflects on challenges faced by women leaders in library and information science (LIS) and outlines strategies for empowering their roles in the future.
