Abstract

Violence against women is a pervasive violation of human rights and a significant barrier to achieving gender equality in India. Despite constitutional guarantees and numerous legislative measures, women continue to face physical, emotional, sexual, and economic violence. This research paper examines the nature, causes, and consequences of violence against women in India and evaluates the effectiveness of legal frameworks designed to protect women's rights. The study adopts a socio-legal approach to analyze existing laws, judicial responses, and societal challenges. It concludes with recommendations for strengthening legal enforcement and promoting awareness to ensure the protection of women's rights
