Abstract

The Indian Constitution is not only a legal framework but also a transformative instrument designed to achieve social justice through mechanisms of social engineering. By embedding principles of equality, liberty, and fraternity, the Constitution aims to dismantle entrenched inequalities and restructure society on more equitable foundations. This paper examines how the Indian Constitution functions as a tool of social engineering by promoting affirmative action, safeguarding fundamental rights, and empowering marginalized communities. It further analyzes the role of judicial interpretation, landmark case laws, and constitutional amendments in shaping India’s path toward social justice. Challenges in implementation, such as persistent socio-economic disparities and political misuse, are also discussed, highlighting the need for a more inclusive and pragmatic approach to constitutional social engineering.
