Caste, Class, and Migration: Social Movements for Equality and Justice

Abstract

This paper examines the intersections of caste, class, and migration, and how these interlocking structures shape social movements aimed at equity and justice. Drawing on theoretical frameworks from sociology and political economy, this study explores how caste and class hierarchies influence migratory patterns, and how migrations — internal and international — generate new forms of collective action. We highlight case studies from India and South Asia to demonstrate the role of migrant communities in advancing social justice, focusing on grassroots mobilization, labor movements, and identity politics.
