MANAGERS IN THE AGE OF GENERATIVE AI: READINESS, RISKS, AND STRATEGIC VALUE
Abstract
The rapid diffusion of generative artificial intelligence technologies in 2023 marked a critical inflection point in managerial decision-making and organisational strategy. Tools such as large language models, generative design systems, and AI copilots began reshaping how managers plan, coordinate, communicate, and evaluate performance. While generative AI offers substantial potential to enhance productivity, innovation, and strategic insight, it simultaneously introduces significant risks related to data security, ethical governance, skill displacement, and decision accountability. This paper examines managerial readiness for generative AI adoption, analyses the risks associated with its integration into organisational processes, and evaluates the strategic value created through effective managerial use of generative AI in 2023. Drawing on secondary data from academic literature, industry reports, and global management surveys, the study argues that managerial capability, governance frameworks, and organisational culture play decisive roles in determining whether generative AI functions as a strategic asset or a source of operational vulnerability.
