Abstract

In India, invasive species are a big problem to the biodiversity, ecosystem stability, and forest productivity. These exotic species of organisms cause ecological instability by eliciting unhealthy competition against native flora and fauna, changing nutrient cycles and ecosystem services. The present paper will examine the level of invasive species within the Indian forest ecosystems, examine their ecological and socio-economic consequences and the current management approaches. It also suggests integrated and sustainable interventions using biological, mechanical, chemical and community-based interventions. It points to the necessity of increasing the strength of the policy, early detection systems and participatory forest management to guarantee the ecological stability in the long term.
