Abstract

Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) play a pivotal role in ensuring fair prices and reducing exploitation of farmers in India. This study examines the contribution of APMCs in Nagpur district, Maharashtra, to the economic development of farmers. Through surveys and interviews with farmers and APMC officials, the research assesses APMC impact on farmer income, market access, and challenges faced. Findings show APMCs enhance price realization by ~15-20% compared to local traders. The paper suggests improvements in infrastructure, digitalization, and policy support for boosting APMC effectiveness and farmer welfare.
