Abstract

The capital market plays a significant role in the economic development of India by mobilizing savings and channeling them into productive investments. Financial institutions act as important intermediaries in the capital market by facilitating the flow of funds between investors and borrowers. This study focuses on the role of financial institutions in the development and functioning of the Indian capital market. The study examines how institutions such as commercial banks, insurance companies, mutual funds, development financial institutions, and investment companies contribute to capital formation, investment promotion, liquidity creation, and economic growth. It also highlights the services provided by these institutions, including underwriting, investment advisory, portfolio management, and financial assistance to industries and businesses. The research identifies the impact of financial institutions on investor confidence, market stability, and efficient allocation of financial resources. The study is based on secondary data collected from books, journals, reports, and online sources related to the Indian financial system and capital market operations. The findings reveal that financial institutions have played a crucial role in strengthening the Indian capital market by improving investment opportunities, increasing public participation, and supporting industrial and economic development.
