THE HYBRID WORK RESET MEASURING EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Abstract
The widespread adoption of hybrid work models following the COVID-19 pandemic prompted organisations to reassess how employee engagement and performance are measured and managed. By 2023, hybrid work had transitioned from an emergency response to a deliberate organisational design choice, combining remote and in-office work arrangements. While hybrid models offer flexibility and autonomy, they also introduce challenges related to coordination, performance evaluation, collaboration, and organisational culture. This paper examines the hybrid work reset in 2023, focusing on how organisations measured employee engagement and performance within hybrid environments. Drawing on secondary research from academic literature, workforce surveys, and industry reports, the study analyses the effectiveness of traditional and emerging performance metrics, managerial practices, and digital tools. The paper argues that successful hybrid work implementation requires a shift from presence-based evaluation toward outcome-oriented performance management supported by trust, communication, and inclusive leadership.
