This research paper examines social stigma as a major determinant of barriers to mental health treatment in contemporary societies. Despite growing awareness of mental health conditions, stigma continues to discourage individuals from seeking timely and appropriate care. Social stigma manifests through discrimination, negative stereotypes, and internalized shame, affecting help-seeking behavior and treatment adherence. The study explores how cultural beliefs, social norms, and institutional practices reinforce stigma-related barriers. A socio-psychological framework is adopted to analyze stigma at individual, community, and structural levels. The paper highlights the disproportionate impact of stigma on marginalized populations. Findings emphasize the need for stigma reduction strategies and inclusive mental health policies. Addressing stigma is essential for improving mental health outcomes and service utilization.
